Vancouver Asahi Stamp
During the Spring of 2019, the Asahi Baseball Association was honoured to be asked to participate in Canada Post Vancouver Asahi Stamp Unveiling. Asahi players and our families were present at the Nikkei National Museum and Cultural Centre to support this momentous event. Kaye Kaminishi, the last surviving member of the original Asahi, was in attendance and gave a heartfelt speech in Japanese, translated by his son. The Vancouver Asahi, an amateur Japanese-Canadian baseball team whose name means morning sun, has won multiple league titles and 5 Championships between 1919 and 1941.

The Vancouver Asahi stamp displays 11 Asahi players from the 1940 team, including Kaminishi, who appears in the back row, second from left. Designed by Subplot Inc. of Vancouver, the baseball-shaped stamp is available in booklets of 10.
